Roatan House Build April 17-24, 2010

  • Mother: Edith-Jeventina Andrade Children: Estoylin (16), Javier (14), Karla (9) Edith sells souveniers part-time when cruise ships come to the island. She is a single mother ever since the father ran off. She attends the Church of God and was the first to live and have land in Waterin-Place ever since she arrived 19 years ago. Her monthly income can be anywhere from $80 to $100 a month. Friends in the area have identified her and her family as the greatest need in their neighborhood. The friends have mentioned that they would help dismantle what she is living in now and help however they can to make the new home construction happen. At this time this family lives in a structure made up of odds and ends they have found. The floor is dirt and the walls and roof are full of leaks that are a problem when it rains. Bugs come and go as they please.
  • Jeventina and her kids have taken down their old home and prepared the job site for the new home to be constructed. They are really excited about the possibilities of a new safe and dry home.
  • Posts / Foundation Before the short term mission team arrives preparation includes preparing the land, putting in the foundation posts, putting in the rim and floor joists and putting down the flooring.

  • Raul and Danny roofing the house.
  • The completed home with Uventina and her family ready to move in. We had a great time on this build along with the community that turned out to help share in blessing this family. Thank God for safety and health throughout the build.

Hey Tom - looks like great fun!! Your crew is shrinking... what are you doing with them? Hope everyone is staying healthy and finding joy and fulfillment in the experience. Can’t wait for our trip in August!!

It's the 24th; are you finished? I'm anticipating a picture of the family in their new "dwelling."
